Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and Transfer to Akagera National Park – Lake Ihema Boat Ride

After a brief orientation, you’ll set off on a scenic drive to Akagera National Park, located about 2.5 to 3 hours from Kigali. The drive will take you through Rwanda’s rolling hills and rural countryside, offering beautiful views along the way.

Once you arrive at Akagera National Park, you’ll check into your lodge and enjoy a delicious lunch. In the afternoon, you will embark on a relaxing boat safari on Lake Ihema, one of the park’s largest lakes. The boat ride provides an opportunity to see hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species, including the African fish eagle, herons, and kingfishers. As you glide through the calm waters, you’ll also enjoy picturesque views of the surrounding wetlands and forests.

Your experienced guide will take you through the park’s various ecosystems, from savannah grasslands to acacia woodlands, while sharing insightful information about the park’s animals and conservation efforts.

Keep an eye out for elephants, giraffes, zebras, and buffaloes, as well as predators like lions and leopards. The park is also home to antelopes, warthogs, and over 500 bird species, making it a paradise for birdwatchers.

After the game drive, you’ll return to your lodge for breakfast before starting your journey back to Kigali. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have some free time to explore Kigali, shop for souvenirs, or take a short city tour. Your guide will then drop you off at Kigali International Airport for your departure flight.
